The "HERMES" team was established in 2018 by members of the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Thessaly (Volos) and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Student Chapter of Technological Educational Institute of Central Macedonia. After their first meeting at a conference, some members of these student teams decided that they want to collaborate in a common project.
The main goal of this union is the students' participation in a project where the result will provide a product of purely humanistic and anthropocentric nature.
A helper in our effort is the rehabilitation center "ELEPAP Thessaloniki" that provides our team with all the necessary knowledge in medical issues.
The team’s mission is the creation of a fully operational exoskeleton for the assistance of people with impaired motor functions destined to compete at the international competition CYBATHLON 2020. Specifically, we are the first team in Greece which builds an exoskeleton device for participating in this competition. The purpose of the device is to show what can be achieved through an environment of harmonious coexistence of people and technology. It is a device for upgrading the quality of people's lives with disabilities and decrease the problems they face as much as possible.
Finally, it is worth noting that using an exoskeleton is something that only a few ones have the luxury to use today. Our main goal is to make an affordable device which combines quality, comfort in use and safety. Let's build a better place for the advancement of humanity.
